Can you believe it’s August already? It seems like the year is rushing past.

This month sees a brand new educational video added to the HFA library. ‘Haemophilia inheritance in males: the short answer’ is a quick video aimed at teenage males with haemophilia who want to learn more about how the gene change is passed on.

We also feature a pair of reports from WFH 2024 World Congress. Jaime Chase shares her perspective on the Body Art presentation – all about tattoos, piercings and bleeding disorders. While Lara Nicholson reports on ‘Women: Caregivers to patients to advocates’.

Meanwhile the team is hard at work preparing for Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month in October. We’ve started receiving promo items to the office and (spoilers) we think you’re going to love them.

What’s been popular on socials? We posted a great little diagram showing the evolution of haemophilia treatments. Check it out on FacebookInstagram or LinkedIn.

As always, thanks for being part of our community, and happy reading!

Haemophilia inheritance in males

Haemophilia inheritance in males: the short answer

If you were born male with haemophilia, will your children have haemophilia too?

In our new video for teenage males, ‘Haemophilia inheritance in males: the short answer’, we explore how haemophilia is inherited, and why fathers with haemophilia pass the gene change onto their daughters – but not their sons.

Women: caregivers to patients to advocates

Women: caregivers to patients to advocates

From caregiver, to patient, to advocate. It’s a path that many women tread, especially those with a bleeding disorder. But where do you start?

At WFH World Congress 2024, international speakers (including HFA’s Suzanne O’Callaghan) came together to explore how women with bleeding disorders to go from caregiver to patient, and from patient to advocate. And Suzanne shared insightful contributions from some of our Australian women leaders. Lara Nicholson shares her report on the session in National Haemophilia.
